Sci-Fi Cinema. Of course, it’s real.

I was watching one of the Harry Potter films the other day when I commented, “That sure is pretty.  I wonder where that was filmed?”

Kris answered, “I believe that’s all fake, honey.”

Well, thanks for ruining it for me.

I suppose he thinks Wolverine can’t really heal himself either.

I love science fiction.  It’s a bit odd since I really didn’t care for science in high school – although, I was nominated for Governor’s Honors in Chemistry.  I turned such perceived geeky honors down.  Why would I spend a large portion of my summer studying something other than friends and cinema?  For real.

I guess next I’ll hear that Yoda isn’t real and E.T. did not really phone home.

Some people are so incredulous.   Incredulous.  I love that word.  Not sure what I’d do without the synonym checker thingy.  Thingy.  An actual word – as is thingamajig, doodad, thingamabob and doohickey.  I swear.

You are all so sweet to still be reading at this point.  This post is pretty pathetic.  Better luck tomorrow.

Do you like sci-fi films?  If so, what’s your favorite?

  1. Yoda made me smile today. thanks

  2. Not a great fan of sci-fi, but I have watched, “Outer limits”,
years ago, it was a tradition, to go home, get snacks, watch it, with my sister, brothers. We loved it! Interests change, is all.

Great blog Dusty, getting up early does drain you, I know.

  3. I feel your pain!! I got a chuckle….sometimes thats all we need ! Love ya

Aaron, I love that little guy. I mean, who else is so small and so dang fast? My children often request the Star Wars with the “fast Yoda.” I’m raising ’em right.

Lynn, that’s an oldie, but certainly a goodie.

    Mike, you are right!

YESSSSSSS….don’t know if it is my favorite, but my baby boy and I would watch Godzilla every Saturday morning and when the movie was over of course I was Godzilla and he was the hero who saved the town (mobile home)….ask him…I could do the “YOU GOT ME” THINGY real good….by far my favorite attached to a memory!…Mighty Joe Young, Star Wars, does Superman and Spiderman count…I NEED TO STOP!!!! ET LOL

Harry Potter was all filmed in England, mainly London…Andy and I saw a lot of the places they filmed when we went there a while back. A lot of the school scenes are filmed at Oxford University.

I’m pretty sure the floating candles and flying children are, however, fake, but don’t quote me on that one.

Judy, I’m sure Lance would love to hear you tell this story 🙂

Kristen, I will tell my husband you said so. No doubt, if this landscape is real then certainly the flying children are. Thank you for supporting me. Better yet, thank you for supporting science fiction. I knew I could count on you.

Well, of course later along came the baby girl who would always say “THAT’S NOT REAL”…LOL….BUT SHE DIDN’T STOP US!!!!! WE BELIEVEDDDDD

I’m not a huge sci-fi fan, but the guys in my home sure are! So, I’ve seen plenty. Oh, and I saw ET in the theater when it first came out. 🙂

  10. As much as I like you Dusty, I can’t agree with this one. I’m not a sci-fi fan. Even Tom Cruise and his big ego didn’t do it for me in War of the Worlds. Robots, fairies, and Wookies… I’ll pass on all of them.

So is Dragonheart not real either? Loved his voice, oddly reminded me of Sean Connery… Love Harry Potter. I don’t care if it’s all fake or not. Very upset she is done with the series. Lord of the Rings is probably my favorite but I could read Chronicles of Narnia any day of the week. Love Science Fiction!!! Ever read anything by Madeleine L’Engle?? Good stuff!

Kim, I appreciate your transparency. And, I like you still.

Amanda, I love the Chronicles of Narnia. I mean I LOVE C.S. Lewis.

  13. I am a sucker for sci fi. Really doesn’t matter much what it is I will watch it

  14. Dennis

    The original “Matrix”…….Legit!

  15. Sci-fi, urban fantasy, shape-shifters, vamps, you name it, I love it all. Stephanie Meyer is a new favorite author. I hear they are already making her stuff into a movie. Can’t wait! Not real??? “Expelleramus,” or some such Potterism….

i do dabble on the sci fi channel every once in a while— i used to love love love twighlight zone, jt and i watch eureka (it’s b/c we feel as smart as all those folks) other absurdities that don’t match ‘me’ =—i’m a super sucker for comic book heroes though, love batman and super man.AND< I love synonyms, michael and i read the thesaurus – it makes us laugh.

Sam and I love Harry Potter…we always talk like Harry and friends after seeing the movies…can’t wait until the next movie is released….

I love Sci-fi. With respect to the discussion of real vs fake, I dabble in this for my second fun job. There used to be a time when movie makers would add non real stuff to their films because they could. The latest Star Wars movies are a great example. I like the desert scenes from the original movies vs the made up ones. The latest Narnia movie is a good example where the producers said “hey lets try to do this movie without all of the CG stuff that we ‘could’ use” I think the results are fantastic.
