I Need To Find Myself.

I really dislike this statement.  “Find Myself.”  Actually, the Word of God tells us to LOSE ourselves.  “Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.”

I can understand the heart behind how these words are referenced at times.  But, truthfully, it is far from what we should be doing.

Because, when we lose our life and pursue Christ, we know we are.  We can read the Word of God and know we are.  God is clear in His word that we are:

– seated with Christ.

– bought with a price.

– called His friend.

– children of God.

– justified in Christ.

– complete in Him.

– forgiven.

I could go on.  And on.  And on.  My point is that we don’t need to find ourselves.  God has already told us who we are.

My friend, Ron Walters, recently told me a better term for “finding” oneself.  He explained how he felt God had told him to “define” himself.  To define his boundaries.  To define what he’s looking for in a career.  To define what he was willing to accept from others, from himself, and for himself.  To define how to put legs to what God has called him to do.

Maybe you are in a place where you just need to define yourself.  To define yourself and how you are going relate to your current circumstances.  But, define yourself knowing WHO you are in Christ.

I know what it’s like to be sitting in a very different place in life where circumstances have changed drastically.  I’ve been married then suddenly sitting in a house with newborn baby.  A single mom.  A very different life.  But, I never had to go find myself.  I already knew who I was.  Because, God had already told me in His Word.  I had to define how to apply what was already inside of me to my current conditions.

I know.  A little too deep for a Monday.   But, I do feel better now.  Thankyousokindly.

Are you in a defining place?

Word up. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow:  it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart
.
Hebrew 4:12

The word of God is living and active –

It’s not dead.  It’s full of life.  It produces results.  God loves His word.  And, He watches over it to perform it.

Sharper than any double-edged sword….dividing soul and spirit –

Our soul is our flesh.  The word is sharp enough to separate our soul from our spirit, so we can discern if we are functioning in our spirit being or our flesh.  And, as children of God, we are spiritual beings.  Not in a freaky kind of way but in a “we’re created in His image” kind of way.  I tend to function in both.  I’m trying to spend a little more of my time operating in the spirit….no matter what Anna is wearing J

It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart –

Only the word can judge our intentions.   Are our thoughts – our intentions – pure?  The word of God can pierce our spirits and reveal to us our true self.

How are we treating others?  What feelings are we dealing with that are not from Him?  Are we struggling with jealousy?  Are we struggling with judging others?  Are we remaining discontent?  Are we reacting to situations with a negative attitude?

Whatever our inner battle, the word of God is sharp enough to pierce it and reveal the yuck in our life.  Not so we walk away condemned.  But, so we walk away forgiven.  So, we walk away filled with His goodness.  So, we walk away feeling ALIVE.

Reading His word and letting it saturate our hearts is not just a good thing to do.   It’s a necessary thing if we want to walk in all of the wonderful things He has for us.

And, I don’t want to miss a thing.  (Thank you, Steven Tyler for that one.)

Set aside a little Jesus time, as I call it.  You will be filled with His life.  And, ya know what else?  You’ll enjoy life a whole lot more.

Soooo, get yo ‘self in the word.

Doubting Dusty

“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”
Isaiah 42:16

I read this scripture yesterday.  I re-read it.  I read it again.  And again.  Just to make sure I believed it.

I really have no reason to not believe that God makes the rough places smooth.  That He never leaves us or forsakes us.  I’ve never experienced His abandonment in all my thirty-four years.

Still, I go through times where I have to say, “Lord, help me with my unbelief.”

I stand.  I wait.  I trust.  Then, He takes too long.

But, His timing is perfect.  And, in the meantime, when it seems the things around you are slowly crumbling, know that He holds all things together.

So, when in doubt, read His word.  Re-read it.  Read it again.  And again.

He makes good on His promises.  And, He will never leave us.  As a matter of fact, He will never give up on us either.  I must wear Him out.

Except, He probably doesn’t get tired.  That IS scripture.  Right, Dad?
