This little man, dear friends.
Has quite the heart. And, sometimes, he amazes me with the bits of wisdom that oozes out of his little spirit. He must get it from his momma. Or his daddy. Or his other daddy.
At the dinner table, John Henry asked, “It’s Jesus’ birthday. We have to get Him a present. But, He has everything. What do we get Him?”
I responded, prepared to give him Mommy’s wisdom, “Do you know what Jesus wants more than anything?”
And, before I could answer my own question, John Henry said, “He wants our heart.”
I was going to answer with “love one another.” He answered with the greatest commandment.
Our heart is where our treasure is. It’s where we invest the most time and energy. It’s where our first dollar goes. It’s in our daily routine.
There are times I am quite certain that Jesus has my whole heart. Other times, I give Him just a wee bit, because I’m busy with less important things like my recent Twilight Saga addiction. Which, of course, has been a catalyst for me asking Kris various questions about vampires, and Kris responding with “You do know that vampires aren’t real.” Then, me assuring Kris that if he were a vampire, I would want him to bite me so we could be together forever.
It’s all very sick. I love it.
Back to you, God.
But, He wants my whole heart.
More than anything.
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:37-38
ha. you are obsessed with twilight too..jordan and i saw the movie on thanksgiving, and now i am finishing up book 4 (the last one — you just wait, things get crazy!!), and sometimes when jordan comes home i bombard him with vampire/edward/bella info and he’s like “kristen, you NEED TO CALM DOWN”…ha. then i snuggle up to him and tell him that he’s just not cold enough for me. hehe.
There IS life after Twilight, although while I was reading the books I didn’t think so. They are all consuming and definitely a guilty pleasure. But sooooo good. The first and fourth books are my fave.
That is one beautiful boy….inside and out….I am sure JH will make a huge difference in the world he touches
Okay, well, I was going to tell you how much I fluffy heart JH and how blessed you are to have such an awesome little boy but then I got sidetracked with all of this Twilight talk and reading these other posts and now I have to stop reading my latest James Patterson book (sorry James, you are still and always will be my favorite) and go get Twilight and join your crazy club and see what all the hubbub is about. Should I wear a garlic necklace? Love you girl, you bless my life. For real.
OH my gosh!! He is so handsome! It seems so amazing when our kids share a bit of wisdom. It fills our hearts because we know that they are listening and actually getting it. He is so precious!
Look at those beautiful blue eyes…I think JH has been Blessed because of all 3 of you guys! I commend you all! Way to go JH!!
Cari, good to know that there is life after Twilight. I was beginning to wonder. Sigh.
Amanda, seriously. It’s ridiculous how much I loved that book. Just ridiculous.
Sharon, I know you know how awesome it is when our children get it!
Brenda, he has my favorite eyes in the whole wide world!
Oooo girl! You better pray him a big hedge of protection….from the girls!! 🙂 He’s beautiful….and he’s absolutely right!!
John Henry sounds very wise for a little boy, you should be proud. When you hear things like that, you know you are doing something right!
I am thinking your little man there is totally adorable!!!
After your Twilight experience is over, you should have K read you historical aviation stories like; Baa Baa Black Sheep, as kind of a cleansing.
Well, I don’t know too much about vampires. Are vampires something like Santa Clause? Just kidding everyone, just kidding, just being Delbert. I do know about treasures and I do know about the heart. I do know treasures and the heart can’t be separated. One follows the other (no matter how you quote it… lol). As parents, we get a little glimpse of how Jesus must have felt when Peter got it… “You’re the Christ, the son of the living God.” Where is my heart? It’s a great time of year to take a look. I actually like what I see. Like Dusty, sometimes my heart is totally with God and sometimes it’s a little bit with God, but it’s always with him. Dusty’s dad preached a sermon long ago about faith – Great Faith, Faith, and Little Faith. The point of the sermon was they all worked. A heart for God is like that. Sometimes David’s heart was totally into God, but other times…, well. Still he was the man after God’s own heart. That’s like most of us and as long as it’s that way and tender for God, we will be like Peter and John Henry. We will get it.
Good teaching, Mom 🙂
