Out of the mouth of babes.

Happy Monday Y’all!  I hope your Sunday Experience was a great one.  The UCO (University of Central Oklahoma) Ebony Gospel Choir performed at Lifechurch.tv.  That choir is where it’s at.  For real.

Back in the Peach State, my dad is doing a new series called “reDiscovery.”  Yesterday, he talked about rediscovering our youth.  I realize I wasn’t there for the message, but I do read over his messages QUITE.A.FEW.TIMES before the Sunday Experience.  I can hear dad reading this post now.  “Oh, using my notes for your blog, huh?”

Uh-huh.  I am.

I believe we can learn a lot from children in how we present ourselves to our Heavenly Father and how we do life.  Dad talked about {at least, he was supposed to} several desirable traits children have.  One of those being “forgiveness.”  I was reading Anna the story of Adam and Eve from her Beginner’s Bible the other day.  I finished with,

“It was a sad day when Adam and Eve left.  God sent an angel to the garden.  The angel held a flaming sword.  He flashed it back and forth so no one would go back into the garden.”

Anna immediately responded, “That was mean!”

Most of us would argue that they deserved it because of their disobedience.  And, well, since it WAS God’s decision, we can’t really say He missed that one.  But, Anna’s willingness to overlook other’s mistakes here is what really spoke to me.  How often I can have this judgmental, you had it comin’ to ya attitude.  When in reality, God has called us to be like a child, always forgiving and a springboard of grace and mercy.

We can leave the flaming swords to Him.

He is God.

We’re His children.

Let’s just call this a mental detox Monday.

After last week’s emotional roller coaster of writing, I decided to lighten it up a bit this week….or at least, today.

On that note, here is one of my favorite pictures I’ve taken recently.

goat-wp

This four-legged cutie lives on Kris’ family farm.  I’m really not sure why his dad thought goats would be a beneficial addition to the cows and whatnots, but I kind of like them.  From a distance.

One day, I’m going to live on a farm, home-school my children, live off the land, and have my own flock of sheep.  I will shear the sheep and make shearling slippers.  I will sell my slippers and retire.

It could happen.

Or not.

On another note, our weekend was a good one.  We went to the 11:30 service on Sunday, and I left heavy hearted.  More to come on that one whenever I’m up for it.

What are you going to do one day?

OR…..

What was your weekend highlight?

Transcendent Moments

I’ll never forget attending the Arts Conference at Willow Creek in 2002.  I was pregnant with John Henry at the time.  But, the flutters I felt in my expanding belly were more than just the little guy growing.  The entire experience was amazing.  However, two statements made by the great Nancy Beach have stayed with me.  One was “Never underestimate the power of transcendent moments.”

The Willow Creek website reads,

“Today’s spiritually searching culture is less inclined than ever to attend church.  Yet no time of the week is filled with more life-changing potential than Sunday morning.”

It is so easy to get caught up in life’s daily responsibilities and use Sunday as a day to recover by sleeping in – and missing church in the process.  Why is it that we are more likely to give up the Sunday experience than a soccer game?  Believe me.  I’m writing this post to myself as well.  But, I know the power of experiencing that transcendent moment.   Being with the body of Christ can provide that opportunity.

Yesterday was no different.  It would have been easy to scrap the whole going to church thing.  Anna decided to hide from me.  For.A.Long.Time.  I searched outside.  I searched inside.  I did the “I’m gonna count to three, and if you don’t come out…..”  Well, you know what I said.  Still, no Anna.  Finally, I set her up.

“Okay, John Henry, let’s leave Anna here.”

“Rrrraaaggghhh!!!!”  Anna yelled.  From behind the couch.  Covered in blankets and pillows.

She immediately prayed the Lord would be with her when I followed through with my warning.

In spite of our hectic start to the LORD’S day, we made it.  And, I experienced that transcendent moment.  The transcendent moment is where a message connects to your heart.  Or a song moves your soul.  Or something happens that leaves you awestruck.  TRANSFORMED.

It might be a moment of peace.  Or in my case, an hour of peace.  My children were under the care of someone else.  Now, that’s transcendence.

You might experience a transcendent moment at a Broadway show or a Celine Dion concert.  Well, at least a few chicks will.  But no transcendent moment will transform your life like the one you experience in the house of God.

It’s those moments that bring about life change.

When is the last time you experienced a transcendent moment?
