I Kind of Want to Break Out Rocky I-IV. But Not V.

Never Rocky V.

I did refrain from my awesome dance moves, while Anna Takle wasn’t about to give up her microphone.

So, in honor of a new AI season, I give you my two favorite rock stars.

Those lyrics can be tricky.

These lyrics?  Even trickier.

And, I have no good explanation as to why it looks like Christmas morning in my family room with all of the pillows, drums, and other paraphernalia lying around.  Except, Christmas was only a few mornings ago.  Or something.

Whatev’.

I Bet Kris Allen Likes Cupcakes.

I can hardly write anything coherent tonight.  It’s tonight.  But, it’s today for you.  You know.  I’m writing this tonight.  But you are reading this tomorrow.

See what I mean when I can say I can’t write anything coherent tonight?

I just finished baking two dozen cupcakes for Anna’s class.  It’s my turn to bring snack tomorrow and being the mother who doesn’t always think things through, I let Anna choose her snack.

And, what four-year old girl wouldn’t select cupcakes with pink, blue, and green icing with pink sprinkles on the pink cupcakes, blue sprinkles on the blue cupcakes, and pink AND blue sprinkles on the green cupcakes?  Just.Like.That.

I managed to get it all done between attending my kids’ Soccer Awards Night and developing Carpal Tunnel from texting “Vote” to 5702.

I wish I could write more.  I really do.  But, I’m going to try to roll out of bed in time to hit the school grounds at 7:30 in the a.m. for the uniform swap.

I said I’m going to try.

So, if you’re actually still reading this ridiculous excuse for a post, tell me….

Who is going to be the next American Idol?

What Do You Do With Your Loss?

First of all, I can hardly believe Danny Gokey is no longer a contender to be the next American Idol.  How-EVAH, it is certain that he will find success.  And, I guarantee that he will bring glory to God.  How do I know this?

Because, he has already endured a much greater loss – losing his wife to complications from a surgery four weeks before he auditioned for Idol last year.

Urged by his wife’s prodding, he not only went on to audition for Idol, but he also set up a foundation in his wife’s name which provides musical instruments to children.  My friend, Cindy Beall, would call this “turning his loss into a contribution.”

Danny’s favorite quote?  “Unshakable faith is faith that has been shaken.”

Some people become bitter.  Others become better.

I think we know which one Danny will become.

How do you handle loss?

So far this week….

Anna has insisted on wearing two pairs of underwear so she can “hold my pee longer.”

When John Henry and Anna disobeyed and were awaiting their impending discipline, John Henry said, “I forgot, Mom.  Can’t you please understand,” through his pitiful tears.

I had to discipline still, and it broke my heart.

I’ve had to remind myself of the “We Won’t Always Understand” more than once.

I got a little emotional over Matt’s save on American Idol….even though I text my vote for Kris one or one-hundred times every week.  (Not the husband Kris.  I can hardly encourage his vocals in the shower.)

I’ve watched my warrior of a husband get hit from all sides and still draw back his arrow, aim, and shoot.

I’ve read “Purplicious” more times than I would have cared to.

And, I’ve thanked God that I am a Christ-follower, a wife, a mother, and an American Idol fan.  So, I didn’t thank God that I’m an American Idol fan.  But, I am pretty excited to watch it every week.

And you?  So far this week?

AI – The Finale ’08

Well, what did ya think?

Here’s what I thought:

·      Seal’s performance with Syesha was UH-MAY-ZING.

·      I just love me some Bryan Adams.  As soon as David C. and David A. began singing “Oh thinking about all our younger years, there was only you and me.  We were young and wild and free.  Now nothin’ can take you away from me.  We’ve been down that road before.  But that’s over now.  You keep me comin’ back for more” – My dear husband, Kris, immediately sighed with a “Oh, dear Lord, no.”  I was like, “How could you?”  He was like, “So sappy.”  I was like “So romantic.  Gets me all tingly inside.”  He was like….so knowing to back off Bryan Adams.

·       ZZ Top?  Well, you know every girl’s crazy ‘bout a sharp dressed man – not unkempt beards, but certainly a great pair of jeans and trendy shades.

·       And, did you hear OneRepublic sing “Apologize” with Mr. Archuleta?  Love that song – with or without Archuleta.

·      That Carrie Underwood is TAL-N-TED.  We grow ‘em purdy in Oklahoma.

·      Not the biggest George Michael fan….who admits to that these days?  But, I will always dig “Father Figure.”  You know you like it, too.

·    And, the winner by 12 million votes is…….DAVID COOK!

Okay, I had picked Archuleta as the winner.  But, I was so happy to see Mr. Cook take the crown.  I always feel a bit sorry for the one who comes in second….but as my friend, Scott Williams, said when referring to David A., “Watch out Hannah Montana!”  Yes, David. A. will do well with that sweet voice of perfection.

Did ya feel it?

I’m not gonna stay on my American Idol kick, even though I live it.  For real.  BUT, I’d be remiss not to address the totally amazing performance they gave at the end of “Idol Gives Back” Wednesday night.  Did ya see it?  I’m sure you’ve seen the YouTube video floating ‘round the net.

It was goose bump city for this girl raised in the Bible belt.  I looked intently at each AI performer singing “Shout to the Lord” and had to wonder:  “Are they feelin’ it as well as they are singin’ it?”  I think they were.  Because, whether are you are a fully committed follower of Christ or a tree in the wilderness, you cannot excuse yourself from the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit.  I felt it.  Did you?  The scriptures command that we worship him.   I’m sure some of you have probably already left today’s blog.  Sorry.  I can only tell ya the truth.  Psalm 100: 1-2 says “Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy”.

Now, here is a scripture to begin your weekend:

1I will exalt you, my God and King,
  and praise your name forever and ever.
2 I will praise you every day;
  yes, I will praise you forever.
3 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise!
  No one can measure his greatness.4 Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts;
  let them proclaim your power.
5 I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor
  and your wonderful miracles.
6 Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue;
  I will proclaim your greatness.
7 Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness;
  they will sing with joy about your righteousness.
Psalm 145: 1-13

You see, nothing compares to the promise I have in You.  Did ya feel it?
