AI – The Finale ’08

Well, what did ya think?

Here’s what I thought:

·      Seal’s performance with Syesha was UH-MAY-ZING.

·      I just love me some Bryan Adams.  As soon as David C. and David A. began singing “Oh thinking about all our younger years, there was only you and me.  We were young and wild and free.  Now nothin’ can take you away from me.  We’ve been down that road before.  But that’s over now.  You keep me comin’ back for more” – My dear husband, Kris, immediately sighed with a “Oh, dear Lord, no.”  I was like, “How could you?”  He was like, “So sappy.”  I was like “So romantic.  Gets me all tingly inside.”  He was like….so knowing to back off Bryan Adams.

·       ZZ Top?  Well, you know every girl’s crazy ‘bout a sharp dressed man – not unkempt beards, but certainly a great pair of jeans and trendy shades.

·       And, did you hear OneRepublic sing “Apologize” with Mr. Archuleta?  Love that song – with or without Archuleta.

·      That Carrie Underwood is TAL-N-TED.  We grow ‘em purdy in Oklahoma.

·      Not the biggest George Michael fan….who admits to that these days?  But, I will always dig “Father Figure.”  You know you like it, too.

·    And, the winner by 12 million votes is…….DAVID COOK!

Okay, I had picked Archuleta as the winner.  But, I was so happy to see Mr. Cook take the crown.  I always feel a bit sorry for the one who comes in second….but as my friend, Scott Williams, said when referring to David A., “Watch out Hannah Montana!”  Yes, David. A. will do well with that sweet voice of perfection.

What did you think?

Thursday Randomness

Random thoughts going through my mind right now:

·        I don’t know how I enjoyed showering before Dove Exfoliating Soap.

·        Why can’t I get everything I need in just one trip a week to Super Target?

·        Why can’t my children just ask me a question without first hailing, “Mom” and then waiting for my “Yes?”

·        God is teaching me to trust Him in the day to day stuff….and I’m just stepping on the stones as He lays each one in front of me.

·        I’m excited that Narnia: Prince Caspian premieres this weekend.

·        If bottled water cost more per gallon than gasoline, why am I still drinking it?

·        Anna is suddenly into wearing nightgowns (not PJs), and her wardrobe only consists of two.  I try to make sure that at least is one is clean every night to avoid an obvious emotional breakdown.  Kris insists that it is less than prudent to purchase more gowns since she has perfectly good PJs.  He doesn’t understand what it’s like to be a girl trying to move forward in the world of fashion.  Maybe if I drop some green for a few new gowns he’ll never know.  After all, gowns are all the rage this fashion season.  And I more than anyone know the importance of a great handbag, a pair of fierce shoes, and a posh new Princess gown.  It’s times like this that Anna and I are one in spirit.

What’s going through your mind right now?

5 Minutes

Here’s one for ya.

If you had five minutes of the world’s attention, what would you say?

My mind has been all over the board on this one.  For real.  Themes like “forgiveness” and “peace” seem likely.  Or, perhaps, addressing the rising gas prices is another good one.  But, I’m drawn to this one.

I think maybe I’d share Ephesians 3:18-19 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Because, the love of Christ is the greatest story ever told.

Of course, to truly understand the love of Christ, you have to know the whole story.  Perhaps, I’d hit the highlights like the fact that God knowing that we would need to be saved from our sin willingly agreed to become a man and give his life as a ransom.  Why did he do it?  Because, he loves us.

It’s a tough question really.  What would you say?  You’ve got five minutes.

The weekend that was.

The Takle family had quite the event-filled weekend.

First, this guy graduated from pre-school.

Yep.  A real, live graduation filled with entertainment from the graduates themselves….and, a little sister who insisted on being included.

We then prepared for a big wedding weekend.  Falon, who used to care for my children, tied the knot with her Tulsa police officer.  The ring-bearer and flower girl aren’t much for rehearsals.

But, they did love the dance floor.

They didn’t want to see their Falon go, so they did what they knew to do.

Eventually, even they could not overcome the weight of their sleepy heads.

But, this one did manage to fall asleep with his arm still clutched to his ring bearer pillow.

It was a good weekend.

The votes are in.

Voted “Class Clown” for the 2007-2008 Pre-school Year

One of Anna’s teachers, Ms. Brittney, remarked, “She is truly the funniest girl in the class.  I’ve never seen such a quick, comedic three –year old.”

“I am quite funny, myself,” I assured Ms. Brittney, eliminating any doubt of the source of her wit.

A mother couldn’t be any prouder.  For real.

(A Necessary Note:  I did discourage the hat for picture day, but some battles are better left for enforcing the removal of purple Mardi Gras beads, such as it was in this case.)

The great defender.

My children like to quote a line from the recent film “Alvin and the Chipmunks”.  It’s when Alvin chants, “Dave likes to wear dirty underwear.”

At first I scolded them for repeating such vulgarity (at least it sounds vulgar coming from a 3 year old’s mouth).  But, then I joined in.  Its repetition became somewhat contagious.  I just couldn’t help myself.

I changed it up a bit and sang, “Nan likes to wear dirty underwear.”  John Henry quickly yelled back, “No!  I love her!  Don’t sing that about Nan!”  (Nan is my mother and would also be the next American Idol if John Henry had anything to do about it…..along with the next President .  He’d also make sure she was  voted “Who’s Who Among American Nans.”

So, I sang instead, “Ga-Ga likes to wear dirty underwear.”  John Henry replied, “That’s okay.”

At least we know where his loyalties lie…..as if we already didn’t.

The art of storytelling.

Here’s a story about a princess, a bear, and a time-out.  It makes perfect sense.

Now, if that doesn’t make you have sweet dreams, I’m not sure what will.

Sending out an S.O.S.

As posted yesterday, I’m on my girls’ trip….at the beach.  I looooove the beach.  Oh, don’t get jealous.  I’m sure it’s beautiful where you are, too.  Just not AS beautiful.  And, as much as I miss my family, I’m really enjoying this lounging lifestyle where I am only responsible for Dusty Takle.

I did not call to check on the family back home once yesterday.  It wasn’t intentional.  I promise.  How could I?  I just could, I guess.  So, Kris calls me last night and says, “When you go on vacation, you go on vacation!  You don’t call, you don’t write, you don’t send smoke signals!”  For real.

Fortunately, I think yesterday’s blog bought me some grace.  I’m sure he was polishing his halo immediately after he finished his call with me.  He certainly wasn’t bathing the children who have been playing on the family farm all day.  After all, that’s not his gig (so, he tells me.)  However, it is my wonderful mother-in-law’s gig.  Thank heavens.

Well, back to beach reading and good friends all sans messy breakfasts and Candy Land.

By the way, I did get an e-mail from Kris last night updating me on the children’s activities.  Kris refers to the farm as Club Med for the kids.  Here is an excerpt from his update:

“JH (John Henry) and I left the house at 9:00AM for the Hangar where we saddled up the Ford 235HP tractor with the 15ft bat wing bush hog.  We started on the runway area, and JH was loving it.  Of course, the air-conditioned tractor made life nice and I of course had to explain to him that I didn’t have this growing up….He was good for about 2 circles then gently put his head on my left side and fell asleep.  Oh, how it brought back memories of my young life and my farm days with my dad.  It was the best time I have ever had with our son.  He would awaken to tell me how many ant hills we had killed and then about 30 minutes later he would be out.  Just like me.  I guess the hum of the motor and cutter was just too much to overcome.”

What a good daddy.

Wanna make a memory?

It was a beautiful Sunday morning in Georgia, and I hear Miss Anna yelling down the hallway, “Ga-Ga!”  “Ga-Ga!”  “Ga-Ga!”  “It’s time to get up!”  (Ga-Ga is my children’s name of choice for my dad.)  Dad was already up and moving.  After all, it is Sunday, and it probably wouldn’t go over well if he slept in…since he is the pastor.  For real.

Hearing her call for Ga-Ga to wake up made my mind instantly rewind back to being a little girl anxiously waiting for the “okay” from my Grandmother to go wake up my Granddaddy for the morning grub.  I love that memory.

I just love remembering.  Don’t you?  Sometimes we do things with our children with the sole purpose of “making a memory.”  But, I have found that it is the small, unintentional events that really leave a mark.  Like Paw-Paw’s cornbread.  Paw-Paw is John Henry’s grandfather (Bryan’s dad).  And by default, Anna calls him Paw-Paw, too.  As a matter of fact, she refers to Bryan as “Daddy Bryan.”  Remember, this is our normal.  And, we like our normal.

Kris, the kids and I ate lunch with Bryan’s family yesterday.  I enjoyed Paw-Paw’s cornbread while Anna enjoyed his super cool chair that with a simple push of a button can send her up to the sky.  She was making a memory while I enjoyed reliving one with my cornbread.

It’s my belief that the events in themselves don’t make for a good memory.  It’s the love behind it.  Paw-Paw loved Anna enough to let her go for joy rides in his chair.  And, Bryan’s family loves me enough to still want to share some mighty fine cornbread.

How do you spell memory?  L-O-V-E.  I know, corny.  I’m allowed from time to time – or from blog to blog.

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.  Philippians 1:3
